A flooded house in Ghent means a crew and a second truck are fifteen minutes away. Up here on the Shore it doesn't work like that. We stage every job on US-13 assuming there's no backup within an hour, so the truck leaves Norfolk loaded — extra air movers, a spare dehu, generator, hose. Fifty minutes north of the Bridge-Tunnel and a lot of that highway is single-lane, so a forgotten piece of equipment is a two-hour round trip.
The building stock changes what we find. Older frame and manufactured homes on well and septic, plus the small pre-1950 places along Main Street and Willis Wharf Road, where supply lines run through crawlspaces that were never really sealed. Down toward Willis Wharf and Quinby the water comes from the seaside marsh, not the Bay, and it comes in low and salty. We also handle a fair number of commercial and ag losses — packing sheds, poultry buildings, produce operations — which is a bigger share of our work here than anywhere in the metro.

How long before someone's actually at my door?
We won't quote you a number. It's a real drive from Norfolk, tunnel traffic swings it, and anyone promising a fixed window up here hasn't made the trip. Call and we'll tell you honestly when the truck rolls and when it lands.
My well and septic are involved — does that change the job?
Yes. A saturated drainfield or a septic backup means contaminated water, so it's handled as a Category 3 loss: affected porous materials come out, everything gets cleaned and treated, then we dry. We'll also document it for your insurer.
